Behind the smiling faces of all the children
at Aulia, there is a story. The backgrounds are often very sad, dramatic
and for western understanding unbelievable.
Entrusting your child to somebody else is, most of the time, very hard for the parents. Often they realize that this is the best opportunity to provide a better future for their children.
The Aulia Foundation tries, in all cases, to maintain the contact between a child in Yogyakarta and the family, often in Jakarta. As soon as the children are old enough, they are taken to Jakarta to visit their relatives.
To give an impression of the actual backgrounds, we hereby tell some
stories.
For privacy reasons the names of the children and their families involved
are not mentioned.
